It is incredible how little choice we seem to have when caring for our deceased loved ones and giving them a decent send off.
Why are funerals so staid, bleak and formal and why do the coffins always seem to be closed.
I have had the honour of helping with my mother and brother deceased and the options were not great.
Spending time with the body is a very normal part of grieving and perhaps even vital to help comes to terms with the transformation. Many cultures and countries around the world keep the body of their loved ones at home for between three to seven days to help their spirit release. But the norm in the west in to quickly rush the body to a funeral home and have the coffin closed at the short formal funeral.
